August 06, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
Apex Custom Concrete & Masonry has expanded the availability of its backyard outdoor kitchen design and construction services for homeowners in Northwest Ohio. The company said the added scheduling capacity is intended to accommodate rising homeowner interest in integrated outdoor living spaces heading into the coming season.
The Oak Harbor-based company coordinates outdoor kitchen projects from initial site assessment and layout planning through material selection, foundation construction, appliance installation and a final walkthrough. The approach is designed to bring cooking, food preparation, storage, dining and relaxation functions together within a single permanent outdoor structure.
A built-in outdoor kitchen involves decisions that a portable grill setup does not, including circulation, utility access, weather exposure, drainage and the relationship between the cooking area and the surrounding patio. Apex reviews available space, cooking habits and entertaining priorities with homeowners before developing a layout. Published design configurations include straight-line, L-shaped, U-shaped and island-style arrangements, allowing projects to be adapted to compact patios, corner spaces or larger entertaining areas.
Each project begins with a consultation and site assessment. Apex uses three-dimensional renderings to help homeowners visualize a proposed layout and review key details before construction begins, a step the company said supports decisions about seating, appliance placement, counter space, storage and lighting.
Material selection is coordinated with the intended use and architectural style of each project. Apex works with concrete, natural stone, brick, granite, ceramic surfaces and stainless steel components, and countertops may be formed from sealed concrete or granite. Surrounding flooring can incorporate stamped concrete, stone pavers or outdoor-rated porcelain tile, with sun, wind, rain and seasonal exposure factored into placement and finish selection.
Outdoor kitchen design is also coordinated with patios, retaining walls, fire pits and seating areas so the cooking space functions as part of a broader outdoor living plan rather than a separate addition. Cooking zones can be arranged around built-in gas grills, charcoal or kamado grills, pizza ovens, smokers and side burners, with elements such as weather-rated cabinetry, sinks, refrigeration, beverage storage, bar seating and lighting incorporated according to each homeowner’s stated priorities.
Projects that involve electrical, plumbing or fuel connections require additional planning. Apex said it manages applicable zoning, permitting and inspection requirements associated with its outdoor kitchen work, along with code considerations, ventilation, drainage, GFCI-protected electrical service and the placement of gas or propane components when those features are part of a design.
“A successful outdoor kitchen starts with understanding how the homeowner wants to cook, entertain and move through the space,” said Mark Baumgartner, owner of Apex Custom Concrete & Masonry. “Expanding our scheduling capacity allows us to bring those practical needs together with durable concrete and masonry construction sooner for homeowners planning a project this season.”
Construction proceeds once layout, materials and included features are approved, with work continuing from the project foundation through installation of specified components. Apex said its process concludes with a walkthrough covering use and maintenance, including guidance on cleaning stainless steel, caring for cabinetry, protecting appliances and resealing concrete or granite surfaces when needed.
