Paired with a Ring camera, the app creates seasonal sun-and-shade maps for yards and gardens
LAS VEGAS, NV, UNITED STATES, October 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Greenlapse, the app known for connecting with Ring cameras to track garden growth and create timelapses, now offers a sunlight tracking and mapping feature that helps gardeners understand how sunlight moves across their yards throughout the year.
When paired with a Ring camera, Greenlapse will automatically produce a sun-and-shade map of a garden each season. The first map is created after a user downloads Greenlapse and connects it to their Ring camera. The app waits for a sunny day and then measures sunlight conditions every hour from sunup to sundown, creating a color-coded map of the sunny and shaded areas across the yard.
The process is repeated each season to reflect changing sunlight patterns. By showing gardeners how much sun and shade different areas of their yard get over time, the maps provide valuable information when making planting decisions or determining why a plant is struggling. This kind of knowledge saves time and money and gives plants and trees a better chance to thrive.
“We’re excited to make it much easier for gardeners to know where to plant and when their plants are getting the light they need,” said Cameron Hill, creator of Greenlapse and founder of Desert Hollow Ventures. “Sunlight can change dramatically throughout the day and across the seasons. An area that’s sunny in spring can be shaded by a tree or a building in fall. Early Greenlapse users told us they were setting alarms throughout the day just to check the sunlight in their yards. Greenlapse does that job effortlessly and takes the guesswork out of gardening.”
Developed for the Ring Appstore, Greenlapse is a data-driven, easy-to-use plant tracker. In addition to producing sunlight maps, Greenlapse:
• automatically takes daily garden photos and turns them into a timelapse
• identifies plants in the photos using a database of 45,000+ species
• provides care recommendations tailored to each plant and growing environment.
• tracks weather conditions and offers proactive suggestions to protect plants
Greenlapse is available now at greenlapse.app or via an iOS app in the Apple App Store. You can find Greenlapse in the Ring Appstore, available to Ring subscribers. The app is free to download and includes a 30-day free trial.
